Department of Education

The Master’s Program

Course in Systems of Contemporary Educational Practices /
Course in Systems of Comprehensive Human Formation

We aim to recruit students with a strong academic grounding who are interested in pursuing original and, where appropriate, interdisciplinary research into all aspects of education.

For the Course in Comprehensive Human Development, we seek students with an interest in any aspects of learning or psychology, as these relate not just to the experience of formal education, but to the whole range of societal and other influences.. The Course in Educational Systems seeks to attract students interested in investigating various aspects of the instructional process and the institutions through which it is mediated. In addition to formal schooling or college education, these may include the home or the various channels through which ‘lifelong learning’ is pursued.

Selection of students is based on evidence of proficiency in foreign languages, as well as an examination relating to the chosen field of specialization. There is also an oral exam focusing upon candidates’ proposed research plans and previous record of academic research.

The Ph.D. Program

Educational Studies Course

We seek students with an interest in and potential for becoming independent and critical researchers into various aspects of education, learning and human development. Research pursued by doctoral students in the Education Department may relate not only to teaching and learning in formal educational institutions (schools, colleges, etc.), but also to learning – in all its forms – that occurs in any social context. We will also consider research proposals that address social phenomena related to education, such as state projects of political socialization conducted through public propaganda, museums, and various other media.

Selection of students is based partly on evidence of proficiency in foreign languages. There is also an oral exam focusing upon candidates’ proposed research plans and previous record of academic research.
